A Chiropractic Resolution

Are you making a New Year’s Resolution this year?

A holiday trend that seems to be gathering steam in recent years is the New Year’s Non-Resolution. The idea behind it is not to set out to change behaviors but rather to keep doing exactly what you are doing – but more often! The catch is to start being more aware of what habits you have and to reinforce those which have a positive effect on your health and wellbeing. It can also be argued that setting lofty goals at the beginning of the year merely sets people up for failure, further adding to feelings of low self-worth.

Here are some Non-resolutions to use as an idea:

Say “no” more often. Curate the activities you spend your time on rather than blindly accepting responsibility for everything that gets thrown your way. You are more likely to lead a disciplined and more productive life, rather than just a hectic day-to-day existence.

Resolve to keep doing something positive. Instead of sitting down to list all your faults, think about the good experiences of the past year. Resolve to do more of the things that make you happy.

Do something every day that your future self will thank you for. It doesn’t matter how small that thing is – drink a jug of water, set up a small savings account, eat a salad for lunch instead of French fries – the point is to do at least one thing today that you will feel good about tomorrow and into the future.

Be Proactive. Being proactive with one's health is the best approach. Visit a chiropractor to deal with that lower back pain before it turns from a small pain to a hunch.

There are always challenges that will get in the way of a successful resolution or non-resolution, the opportunity is to overcome that mental barrier and succeed at that challenge. Remember to keep your goals simple and achievable and to celebrate the wins as you achieve them. Have a safe and happy new year and best of luck to all your resolutions and non-resolutions.
