What is the dirtiest word that anyone can say to you at work? Put the profanity aside, because I’m willing to bet you that the word “RUN” as far worse. Go ahead and try it. When the lunch bell rings ask your co-workers to go for a quick run with you and see what they say, I’m not taking responsibility for all the profanity now.
One of the hardest things to do is find the time to exercise and stay fit at work. If your job is not the kind that requires a physical aspect, then I dare you to take 20 minutes out of your lunch and go for a quick jog.
It can almost be guaranteed that you will inspire your management team and co-workers to lead a better and healthier work day. Putting the health benefits of running at lunch time aside, having a quick run at lunch can promote good mental health.
Most runners experience that “runners high” when going out for a morning or evening run, but at lunchtime a quick jog can let you clear your mind of the daily tasks that stress you out at the office. So what are some things that you can do to encourage this in your office?
1) Speak to your management team about setting up a lunchtime running club for everyone in the office. Being in a supportive environment promotes team unity, increases productivity and promotes a healthier team environment.
2) Speak with your co-workers about your goals. Chances are that they are thinking about adding some more activity into their daily routine and aren’t sure about how to start and what to do.
3) Set goals for yourself and the team. This can be a great way to keep everyone engaged and track the progress of everyone.
4) Create a space that everyone can feel comfortable regardless of their skill level and encourage participation.
Running at work during your lunch break doesn’t have to be a scary terrible thing.
